Everyone has a story and turning points that brought them to where they are today. Likewise in my story as well. Despite my insistence that “I will never work in the family business”, my dad creatively invited me to try it out for two weeks after graduation. I was hooked! Working in the “family business” under my dad for years taught me so much about working with people, respect, kindness, empathy, integrity and the importance of a PMA – “Positive Mental Attitude”. This was an integral part of growing up in our family and all nine of his children still live this daily. I did not realize how many invaluable lessons and values he was imparting day to day and feel so blessed to have worked with him.
Moving to Washington DC early in my career to become certified in the travel industry and the Society of Incentive Travel (site) opened doors to meeting and engaging with the brightest minds in our industry. My certification and involvement nationally in our industry led to the privilege of serving on multiple travel industry boards including multiple cruise lines, hotels, American Express, and most recently the Travel + Leisure Magazine board for which I served over 20 years. These opportunities introduced me to how the industry works at multiple levels and to key individuals. many of who serve our industry today!
